The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) is launching a radiation therapy compendium to guide decision-making for patients receiving radiotherapy, according to a press release.1 The compendium was announced at the NCCN 22nd Annual Conference.

Radiotherapy is used in various forms for almost two thirds of patients with cancer. This NCCN guideline was created to support clinical decision-making to improve clinical outcomes for patients receiving this treatment.

According to the press release, the compendium covers all methods of using radiotherapy, including “Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Intra-Operative Radiation Therapy (IORT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)/Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT)/Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR), Image-guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), Low dose-rate brachytherapy (LDR)/High dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR), Radioisotope, and Particle Therapy.”

Twenty-four types of cancer are included in the guideline, ranging from common solid tumors such as breast cancer and prostate cancer to hematologic malignancies such as multiple myeloma. Other types of cancer will be added in the coming months.
