Advantages

  • Relatively fast imaging modality.

  • CT imaging with contrast is the gold standard imaging modality in detecting and characterizing mucosal associated lymphomatous growth

  • May be useful in guiding percutaneous biopsy and guiding treatment and therapy

  • Offers exquisite detail of the surrounding osseous structures

Disadvantages

  • Exposes patients to ionizing radiation

  • Less sensitive and specific in characterizing the surrounding soft tissues

  • Contraindicated in pregnant patients
