Miscellaneous diagnostic tests:

Indications for: PORCINE SECRETIN

For the stimulation of pancreatic secretions, including bicarbonate to aid in the diagnosis of pancreatic exocrine dysfunction, and to facilitate the identification of the ampulla of Vater and accessory papilla during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). For the stimulation of gastrin secretin to aid in the diagnosis of gastrinoma.

Adult Dosage:

See full labeling. Discontinue interacting drugs (eg, anticholinergics, H2-receptor antagonists, or PPIs) prior to testing accordingly; see Interactions. Administer IV test dose (0.2mcg); if no hypersensitivity reaction after 1min, give recommended dose as IV inj slowly over 1min. Exocrine pancreas dysfunction (fast for at least 12–15hrs prior to testing): 0.2mcg/kg. ERCP: 0.2mcg/kg. Gastrinoma (fast for at least 12hrs prior to testing): 0.4mcg/kg.

Children Dosage:

Not established.

PORCINE SECRETIN Contraindications:

Acute hypersensitivity reaction to test dose. Documented hypersensitivity reaction to porcine products.

PORCINE SECRETIN Warnings/Precautions:

Stimulation testing should only be performed by physicians with sufficient expertise. Have appropriate resuscitative measures available. History of atopy. Undergone vagotomy, inflammatory bowel disease: may be hyporesponsive to stimulation. Alcoholic or other liver disease: may be hyperresponsive to stimulation. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.

PORCINE SECRETIN Classification:

Possible hyporesponse to stimulation testing with concomitant anticholinergics; discontinue at least 5 half-lives prior to testing. Possible hyperresponse with concomitant H2-receptor antagonists; discontinue at least 2 days prior to testing. Concomitant PPIs may cause hyperresponse to stimulation: refer to specific labeling prior to testing.

Adverse Reactions:
