One study presented at the 2014 ASCO Annual Meeting suggests that eating more fish and exercising can lower the risk for disease recurrence in patients with colon cancer. Researchers surveyed 1,515 patients with colon cancer in several different countries, 188 of whom had recurrent colon cancer. Results showed that those who ate less than two servings of fish per week were twice as likely to experience disease recurrence, as compared with those who ate more than two servings per week. Similarly, patients who exercised for less than 60 minutes per week were more than twice as likely to experience disease recurrence, as compared with those who exercise more, according to the study data. These findings imply the importance of diet, exercise, and lifestyle factors in cancer.
Eating Fish, Exercise Lower Risk for Colon Cancer Recurrence
Eating fish and exercising are linked to a lower risk of cancer reccurrence in colon cancer patients, a new study suggests. In the new study, the researchers surveyed 1,515 colon cancer patients in Poland, Vietnam, Western Europe and the United States. Among these patients, 188 had recurrent colon cancer, meaning that their cancer had returned after treatment.
