Researchers have developed a smartphone application to improve the accessibility of guidelines for chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy and bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) therapy.
Victoria Blumenberg, MD, of University Hospital at LMU Munich in Germany, described the app in a presentation at the 2021 American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting.
The “myTcell” app was developed for healthcare professionals (HCPs). It can be used to guide HCPs through the clinical workflows of CAR T-cell and BiTE therapy, assist with the administration of therapy, and educate HCPs on toxicity management.

The app provides interactive tools to aid the assessment and management of toxicities. It also provides information on referring physicians and treatment centers.
During her presentation, Dr Blumenberg presented results from the pilot phase of the app, in which it was tested by 38 HCPs. The HCPs used the app when managing patients receiving CAR T-cell or BiTE therapy at 5 treatment centers in Germany.
A majority of HCPs (78.9%) said they most valued the app’s content on toxicity management. In fact, 63.2% reported predominantly using the interactive tools and calculators to assess the severity of toxicities and receive grade-specific management recommendations.
The tools were most frequently used for guidance on cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome. Overall, users agreed that the interactive tools improved toxicity management (94.7%) and saved time (81.6%).
The myTcell app is currently available for free download in Europe. The researchers expect it will be released in the United States and China in 2022.
