(HealthDay News) -- Managing stress and finding a reasonable work-life balance is important for physicians, according to a viewpoint written by Jeremy A. Lazarus, MD, the immediate-past president of the American Medical Association (AMA).

Lazarus wrote that the AMA is working to address practice pressures, including securing federal regulatory relief, for many of the day's most pressing practice issues. However, the association is also working to address physicians' personal well-being.

In addition, Lazarus noted that the AMA Alliance is hosting a special education session about achieving a resilient medical family on June 9 in Chicago, which will feature a national expert in physician work-life balance. Evidence-based strategies to help physicians and their families thrive will be shared.

Secondly, the AMA, the Canadian Medical Association, and the British Medical Association will jointly sponsor the International Conference on Physician Health (Sept. 15 to 17 in London), which will focus on the major transitions in a physician's life. Additionally, personal and professional developments and challenges will be covered.
